Ethics Exchange: Paediatrics and children in research

Speakers: Assoc Professor Sarah Garnett and Ms Asra Gholami.

Ethics Exchange is a joint professional development initiative of Local Health District and University human research ethics units across the partners of SPHERE. Each session invites guest speakers to provide their insights to encourage discussion of the ethics review considerations raised. The sessions are targeted to current ethics committee members.

High quality and safe research with children and young people is essential. The research community, including all who participate in undertaking, commissioning, funding and reviewing research, are responsible for ensuring that the highest ethical standards are met in all research involving children, regardless of research approach, focus or context.

In this session, Assoc Professor Sarah Garnett, Chair, Human Research Ethics Committee and Ms Asra Gholami Executive Officer, Research Ethics, both of the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, discuss the ethical considerations of conducting research with children with reference to the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research.
