Leading cardiovascular disease clinicians and researchers from SPHERE, and two NSW NHMRC-accredited Research Translation Centres (Sydney Health Partners and NSW Regional Health Partners) came together recently at the jointly hosted Cardiovascular Symposium at Westmead Innovation Centre.

The Symposium covered a range of subjects delving into key areas such as the role of big data and technology in guiding and enhancing clinical care, state-wide research priorities and how best to address unmet clinical needs through discovery, innovation and translation.

Professor Alta Schutte, SPHERE’s Cardiac and Vascular Health Clinical Academic Group Lead said that the Symposium demonstrated the strength of collective efforts and the collaboration between three NSW Research Translation Centres in bringing together diverse expertise and facilitating interdisciplinary exchange.

"The energy in the room was invigorating and we should harness the openness of people, whether it's scientists, industry, or New South Wales Health,” said Professor Schutte.

“It is not only about doing research together. It’s also about speaking with one voice to the government to bring about change. We need more meetings like this to keep the momentum and conversations going and take us to the next level."
