SPHERE welcomes $1Million Federal funding

SPHERE is proud to be one of the 12 NHMRC-accredited Research Translation Centres (RTCs) awarded funding through the Australian Government’s $12 million investment to strengthen the integration of research into healthcare.
“This investment recognises the vital role RTCs play in ensuring research leads to real improvements in health services,” said Professor Robert Gorkin, Interim Executive Director of SPHERE.
“It will help us strengthen the translation of innovation from research to improve Australian health services and deliver better outcomes for patients and consumers.”
The funding, delivered through the NHMRC’s 2025–26 Supporting Research Translation Centres grant opportunity, will provide each accredited RTC with $1 million over two years, beginning in July 2025 and continuing through to the next accreditation round in 2027.
“With this support, we’ll be able to better align our research and research translation activities with the strategic needs of our health services, while also building the capacity and capability required to deliver on those priorities,” said Prof Gorkin.
“That means more responsive, evidence-based care reaching people faster—particularly in communities that need it most.”
Prof Gorkin also extended congratulations to the other 11 RTCs across the country.
“We warmly congratulate all our partner centres across the country. This collective funding boost is a step forward for healthcare nationally, enabling deeper collaboration, shared learning, and smarter innovation across the entire research translation network.”
The funding will empower SPHERE to forge stronger collaborations with clinicians, researchers, consumers, and communities, ensuring that research addresses real-world needs and drives meaningful improvements in care.
“We are also eager to align our initiatives with the NSW Health Research Strategy and the forthcoming Federal Government Research strategy, maximizing our impact on healthcare delivery."
