Meet Dr. Sophie Gates, SPHERE’s New Research Support Officer
Sophie's transition to SPHERE aligns with her passion for blending clinical and academic pursuits while cultivating meaningful relationships. Expressing her enthusiasm for the RSO role, she stated, "The RSO job is everything I like doing because it marries clinical and academic while also building relationships. I want to be part of something positive and help people."
SPHERE is delighted to welcome Dr. Sophie Gates as one of our new Research Support Officers, bringing a wealth of international experience and diverse expertise to the role. Having worked as a speech and language therapist across various countries, including Kuwait, India, and the UK, as well as a teacher in Thailand and Serbia, Sophie made Australia her home in 2012, initially only planning on a four-year stay.
Previously, Sophie contributed significantly to research projects in Infant Language development at the Marcs Institute, Western Sydney University, from 2012 to 2020. Following this, she served as a Research Ethics and Governance Officer at SESLHD for two years, where she meticulously reviewed ethics applications.

Beyond her professional endeavours, Sophie finds joy in sailing around Pittwater and engaging in other water-related activities. On land, she channels her creativity through painting and indulges her rhythmic side by tinkering with the drums, a interest she has revisited many times over the past 20 years.
SPHERE looks forward to the positive impact Sophie will undoubtedly bring to the research support landscape.
