Advances in behaviour therapy for tic disorders: insights from the UNSW Tic Surf School
Behavioural therapies, such as exposure and response prevention (ERP) and habit reversal training (HRT) are considered the first-line treatments for tic disorders. There is growing interest in integrating third-wave, acceptance and commitment-based interventions to target the premonitory urge component of tics and enhance treatment effectiveness. This talk explores emerging directions in behavioural interventions, including findings from the UNSW Tic Surf School, a 10-session intervention for children aged 8-17yrs. The intervention combines urge acceptance with ERP across both individual and group modalities.
