PhD Workshop #1: Communication in Science

Maridulu Budyari Gumal, the Sydney Partnership for Health, Education, Research and Enterprise (SPHERE) Cancer CAG will be hosting two half-day workshops in ‘Communication in Science’.

It’s essential that researchers communicate their research to non-specialists (such as researchers in other disciplines, policymakers, industry, the press, or the public) to increase the impact and influence of their ideas more broadly in society.

The workshops will provide PhD students (of any stage working in oncology or cancer research) with the opportunity to further develop skills in communicating complex science to a broad and diverse stakeholder group as well as impactful pitching.  An external expert will be facilitating these sessions, and both workshops will be followed by a networking lunch.

We would like to extend this invitation to PhD students across the SPHERE network of partners; however, limited spots are available to cater to a more personalised experience. We encourage you to register your interest as early as possible. It is recommended to attend both workshops, but you may choose to only attend one.

Workshop #1 Talking science to business, government, and the public

This workshop will involve a moderated interactive panel discussion. Panellists will include a former ministerial adviser/government liaison person, a business/innovation guru, a journalist, and a patient advocate/consumer.

This session will get you thinking about different audiences: what they want to know; and how and when to talk with them.

When: Thursday, 30th May 10am-1pm

Where: UNSW Sydney
