Advances in Behavioural Therapy for Tic Disorders: Insights from the UNSW Tic Surf School
ELDoH Research Capacity Building Series
Behavioural therapies, such as exposure and response prevention (ERP) and habit reversal training (HRT) are considered the first-line treatments for tic disorders. There is growing interest in integrating third-wave, acceptance and commitment-based interventions to target the premonitory urge component of tics and enhance treatment effectiveness. This talk will explore emerging directions in behavioural interventions, including findings from the UNSW Tic Surf School, a 10-session intervention for children aged 8-17yrs. The intervention combines urge acceptance with ERP across both individual and group modalities.
