Meet Dr Dominic Burg:

Bringing science, strategy and impact together at SPHERE
SPHERE has welcomed Dr Dominic Burg as its new Operations Manager, bringing a wealth of experience across medical research, biotechnology and commercial operations, along with a passion for turning research discoveries into meaningful improvements in people's lives.
For Dominic, joining SPHERE represents something of a homecoming. After a career that has taken him from research laboratories in Australia to major international collaborations in Europe and the commercial world of biotechnology, he is returning to what first inspired him: the opportunity to make a difference through medical research.
A career built on discovery and collaboration
With a background in medical microbiology, proteomics and translational research, Dominic has worked across universities, hospitals and industry, developing expertise in scientific research, strategic partnerships and operational management.
His experience includes working with major international research consortia investigating cancer and respiratory disease, where he discovered the value of bringing together people with different expertise to tackle complex health challenges.
He subsequently moved into the biotechnology industry, taking on roles encompassing research commercialisation, corporate governance, intellectual property, partnerships and international operations.
While his career has followed several different paths, a common thread has been his enthusiasm for connecting people, ideas and expertise to achieve outcomes that might otherwise remain out of reach.
Why SPHERE?
After several years in commercial operations, Dominic found himself looking for something more.
"I got to a stage in my life when I was searching for meaning more than just having a job," he explains.
When he discovered the opportunity at SPHERE, he immediately recognised an organisation whose purpose aligned with his own ambitions.
What particularly appealed to him was SPHERE's extensive network of universities, medical research institutes and health services, and its capacity to bring these partners together to translate research into practice.
For Dominic, the challenge isn't simply generating new knowledge. It's ensuring discoveries lead to tangible improvements in healthcare.
Beyond the workplace
Away from work, Dominic enjoys gardening and cooking with his two young sons, attending live music and travelling. An enthusiastic traveller who has visited every continent except Antarctica, his adventures have included walking the Inca Trail and exploring Myanmar.
For now, he's looking forward to a different kind of journey: helping SPHERE and its partners turn research potential into lasting improvements in health.
